Why do we wear jewelry?
Have you ever asked yourself a simple, but profound question: why do your wear jewelry? Why do people wear jewelry?
Come to think of it, jewelry is perhaps one of the oldest and ubiquitous art form.
Even predating cave paintings until today, jewelry has found its away across time, place and culture.
It has a unique ability to unite disparate cultures and eras, weaving a tapestry of meaning that centers on the most universal of forms: the human body. It speaks to our shared humanity, our desire for beauty and adornment, and our longing to connect with something greater than ourselves. With each piece, jewelry captures the essence of what it means to be human, and in doing so, it transcends time and matter, becoming a singular and timeless expression of art.
Humans have always found different reasons to wear jewelry: either as personal adornment, a form of self-expression, as talismans and amulets, for cultural and religious significance, to evoke social status and power or simply because it holds sentimental value.
From death, to divinity, to seduction, every piece has its role in contextualizing the relation to the body it adorns; it always activates and transform its wearer.
Jewelry can serve as a symbol of connection to the past, present, and future, and can convey a sense of continuity and timelessness.
I discovered this art form because of my deep yearning for finding sense, forms of personal expression and meaningful connections with others. Knowing that my craft/art has personal and emotional significance for the ones that choose to wear what I create, gives me a sense of fulfillment and in the same time humbles me. I am deeply grateful for letting me part of your story and for your support!
